The State of California and its Geologic Energy Management Division has developed this map service to serve as a visualization of oil field high energy surface expression locations based on Well Statewide Tracking and Recording system (WellSTAR) database records. This map service displays locations and status of oil field high energy surface expressions. An oil field high energy surface expression is the flow of crude oil, water, and/or steam to the earth's surface during the extraction of oil. As of April 2019, surface expressions are illegal in California. Each expression includes a Governor's Office of Emergency Services Control Number. The number can be used to search for reported volumns on the CalOES Spill Report webpage.
